I’ve revived a ‘tune’ called
July 16
that presumably, judging by the title, was last worked on on that date last year (yes, I do that, see ‘March 5’ here)
Anyway…
July 16
popped back in my head yesterday morning so I dug out the files, along with a couple of other interesting… literally… notes, all from that same summer. Seems it was a good moment. This particular piece is relatively gargantuan for ‘pop’ music, clocking in right now at eight minutes.
I’ll upload it somewhere once done, but it won’t be myspace as they limit filesize, i.e. song length. At one time pop music was limited by 7” vinyl; this dictation by the material object has changed only by manner — the outcome remains the same. Our culture is shaped by our technology.
So, probably, it’ll be up somewhere, sometime, this mash up of percussion, Arabic styled guitars and flutes, strings vaguely nodding in the direction of Shostokovich… although these things can often really only be of use to me (see below), and perhaps this is an example.
