PIcked up a pair of studiophile AV40s to go with the DP 004 — in order to create a budget mobile recording rig. So far so good. Listening back to live gigs where I’ve been improvising using piano, handsonic, percussion and synth, there’s a nice complexity to the groove as I switch instruments and timbre on the fly. Now I have to answer questions like do I overdub on top of what I have, treating the form as relatively finished, or do I sample, almost break beat style, some of the best elements or moments, and build up again from there? The answer will be, of course, a bit of both, according to the flavour of the various works captured already.
Other delicious elements: the sound of dancers talking, the sound of dancers’ feet landing on a sprung floor in unison, the sounds of the plosives and cries that are integral to various training exercises.
