my 13 year old self’s muse Nico/Cale

the harmonium, plus loose clusters of drifting pulse and rhythm that are almost a crude phasing,

and a treatment of dissonance that still lives in how I make music today…

this also links to ‘Krautrock’

I was drawn to the German scene for its willful modernity and disconnect from American pop mores, a European expression…

a serious un-compromised expression of the counter-culture of the time…...

and also its beauty… this shared with say, Forest, England, English traditional music, pastoral acid-folk

Dear all,
this is the follow up to last months email about HEMISPHERE, and it’s my second with fanbridge.
Today I’ll be discussing
1 HEMISPHERE
2 My Next Recording
3 Possible LIve Work
below…

As you know, HEMISPHERE is my ‘almost live’ album, recorded at the Neighborhood Playhouse, in the very reverberant studio 4, and subsequently, edited, overdubbed, massaged and shaped here in my VIllage Recording set up. I’m very pleased with both the performances and the sounds of the pieces, which are both spontaneous and orchestrated, organic and futuristic, exotic and easy live with.

You can buy via all the usual vendors, itunes, Amazon, CDbaby etc.. and also via my website, where you have a choice of instant downloads (including an art pdf) or a CD by mail. There, by virtue of being on this list you get a discount, by using code _______

Don’t forget that what your money does, as well as getting you some fresh sounds and a clear conscience is…. fund the next project.

I’ve already expanded the range of sonic possibilities open to me via a Korg Wavedrum and a Roland Slicer Pedal, since creating HEMISPHERE, and I have a few more equipment ambitions to fulfill before seriously starting work. Also, I am looking at a great sounding new recording space in midtown, for basic tracking including acoustic instruments, and gasp, a return to a little bit of vocals. All in all, I want to keep on working with different acoustic spaces, re-amping and the like, to create lush and beautiful recordings.

If you are in NYC for the next few months, I am also considering what I should do live next. A solo show, where I am combining percussion, synths (guitars too?) and vocals, plus some looping and improvisation? Or a full blown band, raking up older material as well as recent, similar to the Googies gig of August 2008? The latter is of course, harder to coordinate, but perhaps more rewarding for you, the audience, as well as the artist? Let me know please!

Once again, thanks very much for supporting my work,
